Uncertainty & Asking for Help

Uncertainty & Asking for Help

I spoke to my doctor yesterday and she mentioned that we’ll be in this lock-down period for at least a few more months.  She sees the front lines more than I do but she doesn’t even know how long it’s going to be.  However, it’s safe to say:

We’re going to be here a while.

I know it’s stressful, it’s tough on us, it’s tough on our families but it’s an opportunity to bring us together, it’s an opportunity to help each other, it’s an opportunity to grow.  Take that perspective and it’s not so daunting.

A word on asking for help: I’ve always struggled with asking for help.  I was conditioned that you need to be able to figure everything out yourself and if you can’t, you’re stupid and you’re weak.  What if we looked at it the way it truly is?

A moment of strength, a moment to create a bond with someone else, a moment to be truly vulnerable.

That’s how I’m working on seeing it myself.  I’ve asked for a lot of help recently; from my coach, from my girlfriend, from my doctor, from my colleagues and from my manager.  As much as I felt like it would push them away, it’s brought us closer.  It shows strength to ask for help.  It shows you have the courage to be vulnerable.

Do you ask for help when you need it?

Reliability Never Sleeps,

Rob
