MD 187 Does Confidence and Precision Matter in Remote Vibration Monitoring?

In this week’s episode a replay in which Blair welcomes Sunil Vedula and Graham Kawulka of NanoPrecise Corp, and Dean Stephens of Benchmark Reliability Services to talk about the value of precision and confidence when it comes to wireless vibration condition monitoring. NanoPrecise hardware and software are challenging the value of both precision and confidence in one solution.

Habit #4: Decide with Data with Peter Horsburgh

It’s my pleasure to welcome back Peter Horsburgh. He is the author of the ‘Five Habits of Extraordinary Reliability Engineers.’ He has a long history within reliability engineering. He essentially started in manufacturing, then moved to mining, then to power generation, and to aluminum smelting.

In this episode we covered:

  • Now we’re here to discuss habit number four; decide with data. So, what does this mean to you?
  • You mentioned data-driven debate. What is it?
  • In the book, you said problem solving should follow a framework. You mentioned problem-cause-solution-value framework. Can you elaborate a bit on that?

QDD 026 Solving Symptoms Instead of Causes?

QDD 026 Solving Symptoms Instead of Causes?

Solving Symptoms Instead of Causes?

How we describe and approach the issues we need to solve can affect how we react to them.  We know we’re supposed to be solving for root causes. But are we, instead, really just addressing symptoms? Are we celebrating the quick fix and then moving on without addressing the root of our issue?

“If you define the problem correctly, you almost have the solution.” – Steve Jobs

Recognize the common mishaps of us solving symptoms instead of really getting to the causes. And, clearly describe our problem in two parts (statement and description of facts) to be confident that we’re moving toward solving the causes.

The Low Hanging Fruit of Lubrication Improvements with Devin Jarrett

It’s my pleasure to welcome Devin Jared to the podcast. Devin is a success manager at Noria.

He has worked as a processes guy, made a transition over into the technical team, managing projects, then I stepped into the technical consultant role, then now a success manager. He officiates football on the side as a hobby.

In this episode we covered:

  • Where do we start with lubrication?
  • What are some of those low hanging fruits you typically see that we need to address in organizations?
  • Would you consider filtering oil before putting it in equipment low hanging or is that a little bit more advanced?
