Program Description

PgD / MSc in Quality Management

The University of The West of Scotland Quality Centre is an internationally renowned Centre which offers post graduate taught and research programmes in Quality Management as well as training, consultancy and short courses for industry.

Our close links with commerce and industry ensure that our courses reflect the latest in quality thinking and techniques, and our laboratories have industry-standard equipment.

The programme is designed for those who wish to pursue a programme of study in Quality Management. The MSc in Quality Management aims to provide the student with a better understanding of modern developments within this area to the mutual benefit of the student and employers. The Postgraduate Diploma and the MSc Quality Management are accredited by the UK Chartered Quality Institute.

The educational aims are to:

  • Develop critical problem-based learning skills and transferable skills to prepare the student for employment in a professional position dealing with quality management systems development and implementation.
  • Enable the student to develop an enquiring, analytical and creative approach to achieving business excellence through continuous improvement.
  • To develop and encourage independent judgment and critical awareness in the management of quality
  • Assist the student to develop the skills required for both autonomous practice and team-working.
  • Guide the student in developing an independent approach to a research topic, investigating a topic and presenting the findings in a form that is suitable to a post-graduate level degree

  • Strategic and Risk Management (10 credits)
  • Interpersonal Skills and Change Management (10 credits)
  • Management Systems (20 credits)

Optional Modules

  • Reliability and Experimental Design for Industry (20 credits)
  • Quality in Design (10 credits)
  • Operations and Project Management (20 credits)
  • Service Quality (20 credits)

Postgraduate Diploma in Quality Management – 120 credits

MSc in Quality Management – 120 credits plus 60 credit project.
