Getting Started Preparing for the CRE Exam

Getting Started Preparing for the CRE Exam

I’ve learned a lot in my career and have attempted to help others to the best of my ability.

Teaching is fun.

It is also enjoyable to know a little of what I’ve learned from others may continue to be passed along.

The ASQ CRE certification is a milestone in a reliability engineer’s career. It is not an end nor a beginning, just a milestone to mark the achievement.

The CRE BOK encompasses a broad range of concepts and tools.

Passing the exam marks the person as having mastered the body of knowledge as laid out in the ASQ CRE BOK.

Certification

I’ve learned a lot since taking the exam and even have explored ways to introduce a ‘master-level CRE body of knowledge and certification.

The current CRE examines one’s knowledge of the concepts and tools. In practice, we need much more.

We need to master the ability to influence, lead, and inspire.

We need to know how a business works and what works for a customer. The mission is to use the tools, not just know about them.

Preparation

The preparation for the class is a review of the body of knowledge and the references and sample problems that we need to once again fully understand.

The preparation for me is thinking through how to help those best preparing for the exam.

Every class I’ve taught, including a CRE exam prep course, has been different.

Every class of students led the exploration of what we need to know and how to learn. I learn from every class and student.

For the students preparing for the exam, I hope they bring an open mind and willingness to try to solve problems and learn. And, bring a calculator, pencil, and curiosity.

At the moment, I’m not even sure I’ll have students in the course.

The advertising is just going out, and the Oct 1st test date is becoming real.

Whether I have a room full of eager students or support division members worldwide, it should be fun.
