3 Tips for Taking Control of a Reactive Situation

In this session, we will delve into essential strategies for gaining clarity in the midst of reactive maintenance challenges.
[Read more…]RCM Today: More Important Than Ever

Hi everyone, I’m Nancy Regan, and today we’re tackling the big question: “Is Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) obsolete?” With principles that are over 50 years old, some may wonder if RCM is still relevant. The answer is a resounding YES. In fact, RCM is more crucial now than ever.
Join me as I take you from my hotel room in Cartagena to a beautiful outdoor setting to explore how RCM principles still apply today, even with all our advanced technology. Whether you’re dealing with high-tech monitoring systems or simply relying on human senses, the core principles of RCM remain essential to achieving the reliability you need.
Discover why RCM’s focus on understanding equipment Functions, identifying Failure Modes, and assessing Failure Effects is more important than ever in today’s fast-paced, tech-driven world. Let’s dive in and see why Reliability Centered Maintenance is far from obsolete!

It is a mockery to use business performance indicators to manage a company or department. Using the information that shows up on the management dashboards on your screen can wreck your company. Measuring a process does not put you in control of it. A process is totally self-controlled. You always get what the process gives you. Organizational processes work well or do not because of their design.1 A business process that cannot achieve its aims is the wrong design for its purpose.
[Read more…]Reliability Starts Here: Why Every Role Matters

Who’s responsible for Reliability? Spoiler alert: It’s everyone. Just like the intricate root system of mangroves 🌱, building a strong Reliability Culture involves every part of an organization working together. Discover how to involve every team member in creating lasting Reliability in my latest video from Key Largo, Florida.

Change To Win Process
‘Change To Win’ is a structured change management program used to introduce needed changes, best practices and innovative improvements into an organisation. A ‘Change To Win’ team consisting of managers, supervisors and people from the workplace is assembled to implement the changes and is responsible to plan how the organisation will adopt the changes, to trial them and then implement them into standard practice.

Webinar recording from 1/18/2024 as we discuss how to ensure we see the value from our assets by defending them, having the right strategy and people to ensure they run reliably.
[Read more…]What a Sniffer Dog Taught me About Reliability

In this video, I’m sharing an unexpected lesson in Reliability inspired by a highly trained Labrador Retriever at Melbourne Australia’s airport. While traveling to the Mainstream Conference in Melbourne, I encountered a situation at immigration that reminded me of the principles of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM). Join me as I discuss how the training and care that made this dog so effective can inspire us to do the same for our machines so we can achieve the Reliability we require. Plus, I’ll explore why it’s crucial to ensure our equipment isn’t pushed beyond its capabilities. Let’s dive into the heart of reliability together!

Your views on why enterprise asset management fails intrigued me. I am currently undertaking a master’s study on “Understanding the Difficulties of Developing an Effective Planned Preventive Maintenance Regime at an underground coal mine”.
My masters is based on finding the reasons why in the mining field the other methods of maintenance methodologies such as RCM, TPM, Six Sigma, etc. do not seem to get embraced by the mining maintenance teams, and there is always a weak attempt to implement them on the part of management.
[Read more…]Preventive Maintenance: What It Is & How to Set the Right Intervals

In this video, I’ll walk you through the essentials of preventive maintenance – what it is and how to correctly identify the intervals for preventive maintenance tasks. We’ll talk about scheduled replacement and scheduled restoration tasks, and I’ll take you along as I perform three real-life examples: changing my home HVAC filter, getting my hair colored, and an oil change for my Subaru Forester. Each task highlights the importance of scheduling based on “age,” regardless of the condition at the time.
I also explain why preventive maintenance intervals should be set based on the useful life and not manufacturer recommendations, mean time between failures (MTBF), or criticality. Understanding these concepts is key to building a strong Reliability Culture in any organization. If you have any questions about preventive maintenance, drop them in the comments. I’m here to help!
