I’m Not Perfect & It’s Okay

I’m Not Perfect & It’s Okay

I wish I had a strong message for you today but I don’t.  I’ve been having a rough time lately and I’ve been battling with myself so I can show up for you.  I’m not perfect and I’m learning to give myself compassion and love instead of cracking the whip.  I’ll leave it at that.

Why Do We Always Talk About Culture?

Why Do We Always Talk About Culture?

On this week’s webinar, an audience member, who works at a university, asked how they could teach their students the skills that make us good reliability engineers.  My answer was pretty typical, the technical skills are easy to teach & learn, but what makes the great reliability engineers is their ability to build a culture.  I continued to say that it takes relationship building and lots of donuts.

But why do we always talk about culture when it’s connecting with the individual?

Uncertainty & Asking for Help

Uncertainty & Asking for Help

I spoke to my doctor yesterday and she mentioned that we’ll be in this lock-down period for at least a few more months.  She sees the front lines more than I do but she doesn’t even know how long it’s going to be.  However, it’s safe to say:

We’re going to be here a while. [Read more…]

The Year of 2020 Vision

This week’s podcast (released April 7) and this week’s newsletter feature my leadership & mindset coach, Susan Hobson.  Since, we’ve all been thrust into uncertainty and our lives have been changed, Susan is offering her new online program, Launchpad, to the Rob’s Reliability Project community at 75% off to help you level up during this time.  The offer expires April 12th at midnight Eastern so check it out now.  I’ve had some big breakthroughs working with Susan and I will be putting together something special for my community who sign up for the program.  Check it out here! Reliability Never Sleeps,

Burnout, Choices & Valuing Yourself

Burnout, Choices & Valuing Yourself

In last week’s newsletter, I discussed some of the steps I’m taking to reduce the stress caused by the media & others on myself.  It helped a bit but this week it all came to a head.  I wasn’t sleeping, I was anxious/stressed the entire time, my thoughts were racing and I had extreme thoughts of dropping everything and hurting myself.  When I spoke to my coach, she asked me why I hadn’t considered taking time off work, pushing back the things I do for you and limiting the requests I help out with.

I didn’t think it was an option. [Read more…]

Media, Community & Strength

Media, Community & Strength

These are uncertain times and there is a lot of stress in the world.  The media is hitting us with updates on COVID cases, stock market prices and Russia/Saudi Arabia oil news constantly.  For me, it’s been a barrage.  Tuesday through Thursday this week, it got to me.  It stressed me out.  I felt the panic from the media, I felt the panic when I went to the grocery store, I felt the stress from my girlfriend, who works at a senior’s home. Fear, Resilience & Failing Up

Fear, Resilience & Failing Up

There is a lot of fear & hysteria going around the world right now with some of the recent events with Coronavirus, the Russia/Saudi Arabia oil war and the stock market plunge (among other things).

Should you be afraid?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t take reasonable precautions like hand-washing, not traveling to certain areas, however, panicking about the uncontrollable will take you away from things you can control (or at least, influence). [Read more…]

What Are You Born To Do?

What Are You Born To Do?

In December, I was doing cardio at the gym and watching the sports highlights.  One of the highlights was Derrick Rose hitting a game winning shot.  In the post-game interview, the reporter asked him about the shot.  Derrick Rose’s response gave me chills.

“Excuse my English, but I’m born to do this sh**” [Read more…]

Why You Might Need a Break

Why You Might Need a Break

I took last week off of work, not because I went on vacation, but because I needed time to take care of myself.  I did fun activities, I had a few sessions with my coach, I slept as best as I could, I meditated, I did yoga and I took care of myself as best as I could. [Read more…]

5 Tips on Getting Great Sleep

5 Tips on Getting Great Sleep

Lately, I’ve been struggling with poor quality sleep.  Sleep has a huge impact on my mood and the insomnia has contributed to increased suicidal ideation and depression.  Ironically, the reason why my sleep quality has decreased is due to the new medication I am taking for depression (when I’m through this, I will talk about this more.  Right now, it’s too raw of a subject). Why Your Mind is Your Greatest Asset

Why Your Mind is Your Greatest Asset

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right” Henry Ford.

Henry Ford understood the power of the mind and the power of belief systems.  Many of us limit ourselves with what we’ve been told throughout our lives or what we’ve been conditioned by society.  Understanding your beliefs and the story behind those beliefs is the first step to changing them so your beliefs work for you.

Two of my go-to limiting beliefs are self-worth related and have caused me a lot of grief. [Read more…]

Building Confidence by Progressing Through Struggle

Building Confidence by Progressing Through Struggle

While I was at the gym last week, I was listening to the Brendan Burchard podcast and he was talking about building confidence. He mentioned that you cannot build confidence with external rewards like trophies, awards, promotions, etc. and that you need to build confidence from the inside. The statement that hit me the hardest was that the way to build confidence is by progression through struggle. [Read more…]

Last week’s podcast on CMMS integration and this week’s podcast about Haul Truck Fuel Monitoring (will be released on Jan. 20), really bring home a few points on the interaction between reliability professionals and data.
