I have been dedicated to reliability and its benefits for over 30 years. My roles in this have been user, customer, design & development, manager, researcher, academic, trainer, and consultant.
I believe that I have a unique and holistic expertise to grow individual and corporate capability, spanning mentoring, technical, managerial, and strategic spheres. I work with all sizes of business, from start-ups to multi-national, addressing their needs as part of both short and long-term projects.
I regularly provide training programs, both on-line and on-site. I mentor several key individuals across the world.
It’s not reliability we want; it’s the benefits!
My driving mission is to focus and enable teams to deliver the benefits of reliability. It is not enough to deliver product reliability; the reliability needs to be right for the customer and for the business, and it needs to be delivered in such a way as to maximize those benefits. Design and development (and manufacture, installation, support, etc.) are team activities, and such teams are required to achieve several goals, one of which may be reliability. Success requires that we fully understand how to integrate reliability and achieve benefits across multiple goals.
Reliability applies to individuals, teams, companies and nations.
My career spans military (Royal Air Force, UK), academic (Senior Fellow, University of Warwick, UK), commercial (Director Reliability, Research in Motion, Canada) and consulting (worldwide). I have jointly developed and delivered a highly successful Quality & Reliability Masters of Science program, successfully delivered many high-technology products under challenging circumstances, minimized customer risk through novel assurance and warranty programs, given key input to national reliability strategy, leveraged client team skills to achieve demanding objectives, been proactive to minimize field failures, built and implemented new corporate strategies, as well as applied reliability methods to many individual challenges.
Sharing
I have joined the Accendo team because Accendo is built on the ethos of sharing. We each have skills and experience but, unless we are able to communicate, our knowledge will be lost. Challenges in the 21st Century are no less than, and maybe more than, those of earlier. Where do today’s engineers and managers get their learning and experience? I will be contributing several articles that set out some of the learning I have gained over the past 30 years.
