Arthur Hart

Mr. Hart worked for Navy Microelectronic labs in failure analysis, MRC consulting modeling of radiation effects on satellites, and over the last 34 years, at Hewlett-Packard on product development reliability.   At HP, reliability studies were on products including integrated circuits, calculators, inkjet printers, projectors, and TVs.

He was referred to by his peers at HP as ‘Mr. Reliability’.  The experience in the Navy labs providing a perspective of things that can go wrong in severe applications.  Educational background was in Solid State Physics (MS) and Mathematics (BS) at Western Washington State University.

Art is also the author of the article series “Reliability Engineering Insights“.

A series of articles that describe the stories behind the many elements of the reliability toolkit, plus advice and ideas on how to be an effective reliability engineer.

Arthur is also the author of the book, Reliability Engineering Insights.

This book is intended for engineers whose responsibility is the reliability performance of a product. But it could also be used by managers and inexperienced reliability engineers to help build-in reliability while developing quality products. This work stems from my own experiences and knowledge gained while developing and manufacturing of electronic and inkjet products.

The driving goal for the book was to make the reliability engineer a significant contributor to the final product performance and highlight the many factors that influence a product’s reliability.

Topics include factors that influence the reliability approach, tools for today’s reliability challenges, reliability engineer’s expectations in today’s business environment, and an extensive appendix describing a wide range of tools common to reliability engineering.
